The San Luis Obispo House of Bread on Farmhouse Lane is offering hands on classes on Thursday, as well as Sip and Bake demonstration classes on Wednesdays and some Fridays! All classes are just one day, there are just two separate formats of baking classes. The students in the Thursday class series will be mixing their ingredients and kneading their own dough by hand. In the Sip and Bake classes, the students enjoy charcuterie boards and a couple of glasses of premium wine or draft beer, while the baker demonstrates and explains the tricks of the trade. In both class formats, they learn how bread is made, the chemistry behind successful loaves, how dough is kneaded, how it should feel, how to bake it and what creative, fun things can be made. All students leave with loaves of freshly baked bread, recipe packets, enough flour to make their own bread at home, and the knowledge to make bread from scratch.

There are no prerequisites to the classes, so beginners and advanced students are welcome. Classes are held on Wednesdays (Sip N Bake), Thursday (Hands on Traditional) and Fridays from 4pm-6pm. Classes last approximately 2 hours. All classes cost $60 per person and require payment at the time of registration. However, we are offering a special 2 for 1 date night for the Sip and Bake classes of $100 for 2. If you can’t make the class, and let us know within 48 hours in advance of class, we will forward your payment to a class of your choice. Minimum age is 8 years old for the Thursday class and 21 for the Sip and Bake. All classes include mixing, kneading, baking instructions, take home recipes, breads. Class size is limited to ten people.

Classes last approximately 2-2 ½ hours. All classes cost $60 per person or $100 for 2, on the Sip and Bake class offerings only. Classes include mixing, kneading, baking instructions; take home recipes, and breads! Flat Breads, to include Focaccia, Pita and Pizza dough.

Sourdough and class includes take home starter with instructions for care.

March 27th Sip and Bake, March 28th Traditional Easter Baking, hot cross buns, challah, Italian braided Easter loaf, Easter bunnies.

April 3rd Sip and Bake or April 4th traditional Hard Crusted Breads.
Artisan Breads – Ciabatta & French Breads


Private Classes available for $300 plus a $20 materials fee per person with a maximum of 10. Child or Adult baking party classes 2 hours $200 and $20 materials fee up to 12 students. The class includes hands on mixing, kneading shaping of dough. One adult is required for every four kids. Or we do one hour cinnamon roll making classes and tours up to 20 people. $100 and $10 per person.

The two hour private party classes make great adult team building for businesses, or group of friends who want to get their hands in the dough and learn the trade. For those that want to learn a bit about baking and have some fun while the baker does the hard work, the Sip and Bake series is an option.


Sip and Bake! For the less serious baker who wants to enjoy a couple of premium wines, draft beers, delicious appetizers, while the baker shows you all the tips of the trade. Classes will include take home recipes a loaf of bread of choice. The classes are $60 but sign up two for a date night sip and bake and the price is $100.
